First Literature BLAST Deadline Monday, November 5

All participating 4th and 5th graders must turn in 2 book reports by this date in order to continue in the program.

4th and 5th Grade Literature BLAST

In the next 2 weeks your students will be bringing home information about this wonderful event.  It is a great opportunity for 4th and 5th graders to be rewarded for reading above and beyond the classroom expectations.  In late March, qualifying students will get to spend an evening at Fox Hill filled with fun and excitement!  Please look this information over and encourage your student to participate.  I hope we have a record number this year!!!

All students (1st-5th) are checking out "just right" or "good fit" books when they come to the library.  I find it exciting to watch the students searching and finding something that interests them and that they will be successful reading.  I hope that each family represented at Fox Hill will make reading a priority in the home this year.  Please feel free to use me as a resource for book suggestions that you would like to encourage your student to read.

Spring Book Fair Is Coming!!!

Mark you calendars!  The Fox Hill Book Fair will be held April 17-20 in the library.  If you would like to volunteer to help set up, take down or work a shift as cashier, please let Mrs. Roe know.  Another exciting addition to the traditional fair this year is an online option to shop for items.  This is a great way to encourage out of town grandparents, etc. to shop for birthdays or other special events no matter where they live in the U.S.

FINAL LITERATURE FESTIVAL DEADLINE

All fourth and fifth graders particpating in the literature festival need to turn in their final projects/ reports by Monday,  January 30th in order to attend on March 19.

RAFT--Reading Aloud Family Time

Mid-Continent Public Library's RAFT program is a way for your family to enjoy the winter months together.  Family reading time is a great way for families to share beloved chapter books and work together to earn a prize.
Participating families who read two chapter books aloud will receive a free hardback copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a certificate, and will be entered into a drawing for the DVD copy of Tim Burton's film adaptation, featuring Johnny Depp.
RAFT runs from January 3rd to March 3rd.  Reading logs are available at all MCPL branches beginning in January.

Literature Festival Deadline #2

All students participating in the Warrensburg Literature Festival must have 2 more projects or reports turned in by Monday, December 19th.

!st Deadline for the Literature Festival

Forty-seven 4th and 5th graders met the first deadline necessary to continue working towards attending the Literature Festival in Warrensburg this coming spring.  Way to go!!!  Keep reading so that you can have two more qualifying books read by December 19th.

Read For the RECORD!

Fox Hill students will be partnering with Jumpstart for "Read for the record" on October 6. 
Jumpstart is a national early education organization that helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.  We will be reading the story,  Llama, llama red pajamas together over the PA system after morning announcements.

DONATE A LIBRARY BOOK TO CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY

Donate a book to help celebrate your child’s birthday!  On or near your child’s big day, send $7.00 with your child’s name and teacher’s name in an envelope to the library.  Your child will choose a new book from books that are reserved for this program.  Inside the cover, a nameplate will be placed showing that your child donated this book to the library.  A digital photo will also be taken of your child and will be displayed on the birthday book bulletin board.   It’s a great way to celebrate your child’s special day and help the library out as well.

2011-2012 Literature Festival
